Senior citizens in San Bernardino County can now get COVID-19 shots.

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors announced Thursday afternoon, Jan. 14, that all county residents age 65 and older are now eligible to get the coronavirus vaccine.

However, vaccine supplies are scarce and appointments are limited, a news release stated.

County residents who are at least 65 may make appointments online by visiting:  https://sbcovid19.com/vaccine/.

Seniors also may sign up for email and text notifications to receive alerts about vaccination opportunities and related news, the release states, through the “65+ Vaccine Notification Sign Up” link at https://sbcovid19.com/vaccine/.

“We know that our seniors are the most vulnerable to serious illness and death if they contract COVID-19 and we want to get them vaccinated as quickly as possible,” board Chairman Curt Hagman said in a statement. “We ask the community for patience as we continue to receive doses from the State of California.”

Still to come, county officials said, will be new options for getting a shot. They include mobile vaccination units to help those who have a hard time with travel, those who live in remote areas. Also, vaccination sites similar to county testing sites are planned, possibly staged with with clinics and healthcare providers. A “super-site” for vaccinations will be announced soon.

Those who need assistance with appointments or signing up for notifications can call the COVID-19 hotline, 909-387-3911, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, the release stated.
