Manatee County has received 3,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and will begin making calls today to set up vaccination appointments for Thursday and Friday.

The county said 600 doses of its allotment will go to health care workers.

The other 2,400 doses will be administered to people 65 and older at Bennett Park.

County 311 operators have begun choosing people for the appointments randomly from its existing stand-by pool.

Manatee allows residents to pre-register for a spot in the pool and when the vaccine becomes available randomly picks who gets an appointment.

County officials ask that residents whose name is in the pool not to call 311 to see if they’ve been selected. Instead, they ask people to keep their eyes peeled for a call from 941-742-4300.

Operators will call a person twice. If there is no answer, their name will go back into the pool.

As of Tuesday morning, Manatee has 133,500 people in its stand-by pool. As of Monday morning, 16,421 county residents had received a vaccine.
